Laos - Savanakhet

Crossed from Thailand into Laos, knew we'd gone wrong when the road ended at a huge army camp - a nice 50km detour - bo****ks. Had to flag down a bus to get to some accommodation - put our 2 bikes and 4 bags on top and sardined ourselves into the full bus - usual SE Asia chaos, sitting on rice bags in the isle, passing a bag of sweets around to break the ice - stonking

Bus went off with half my luggage - it was so fast, didn't have a chance. Not pleased, in the end we drew pictures asking if they knew someone who could intercept the bus down the road, with a nice tip from us of course - Peter did really well, took a lot of work, since we couldn't speak lao language. All ended well, its silly things like this that make memorable moments, great time.

Took a side tour previous 2 days, along a red dust tracks. Can see the logging lorries by  their 1km plume of red dust - good fun as they pass, choke, choke. Covered in red dust.

Back on the main road now and in Savanakhet, a big town in Laos. 140km, max temp 41c, started at 6am. At least the road is flat. Is not all torture, we stop here and their - have a laugh with the locals, night too, finding the local club, bla, bla, bla...

Looking forward to the water festival in 2 days - songkran - its very big hre in SE-Asia and basically the locals throw water at everyone - through bus windows, etc, meant to be crazy, can't wait to have cool water thrown at us out on the hot road. Out for a stroll now along the Mekong river bank before it get dark
