Thailand - Nong Khai

March 19, 2001 16:03 by jan

welcome_thai We've crossed from Vientiane (Laos) back into Nong Khai (Thailand) and have a night-train to Bangkok in a couple of hours - and onto a breach resort - Kosamet maybe, south of Bonkers

Found a KFC, double helpings of western junk food got rid of crave - Lao food has been great - Vientiane was civilized, lots of colonial french influence and 'Arc de Triumph' as in Paris - wooden shacks on stilts over the Mekong river - atmospheric stuff - loads more 'wats' (temples), we're all templed out.

Last nights water buffalo steak was pretty good Cycled past the Beer-lao Factory, couldn't resist dropping in for a look around, so much beer has been consumed by everyone else these last 2 weeks in Lao

Very hot previous 2 days cycling - today is pleasantly cool and overcast - about 30 degrees - so just chilling out drinking the local brew on the banks of the Mekong river, waiting for a train...
