Thai Job Offer

June 26, 2004 16:01 by jan

Well, originally set off on cycling tour of Thailand, unexpectedly returned back to Chang Mai for a few meetings with the MD of a local software computer company, and have now been offered job. Same skills as present career job, new country....

Nice to have a choice, offered an alternative... and maybe thats all this is, been good fun to look around, talk to the MD, be picked at the hotel lobby by the driver, and generally acting like a tart! but would be mad to turn it down straight away. Hard to give up existing good job in england, not easy to return if do this... Holiday in paradise one thing, work in paradise be careful!

Wages here are very low compared to home, could not save up here to buy stuff back in england. However, salary relatively speaking is very high for here, can live good life style - rent nice house, food very cheap, palm trees swaying in the breeze, easy going relaxed place, laid back friendly people, good weather, theres also a chang mai cycling club here ...

MD very flexible in letting me come to a decision - wants to employ me now or whenever - would be happy for me contract for short time or commit full time - even job share with present employer -which would be ideal.

Immediate feeling would be to say no, but when have been in england for a while, has been raining for over 2 weeks, bad day at work, missing the attractive looking women here - then can decide to come here - would always be for 1 year initially, see how things go... Says i can think about it indefinitely, keep in touch by email - and he's in London in 2 or 3 months - so can meet up again - maybe BBQ in sunny high wycombe...

One scary thing - hard to get Thais to work for you in western style - cultural difference with work is vastly different for them - whats obvious to us isn't for them - i would have to manage Thais, be in charge and responsible - MD says even after 15 years, he still doesn't understand thai way of thinking.

Catching bus south tomorrow afternoon, to catch up with original schedule... Subject to a miracle, a may wake up early, meet the Chang Mia cycling club for the Sunday run...
